The Rotary Club of Grand Junction's Masquerade ball is in its sixth year. This year's theme will be "The 1950's, Now those were Happy Days". Party attendees will be treated to great food, refreshments and fabulous entertainment.
Bobbie socks, poodle skirts and cat-eye glasses for the gals, blue jeans with cuffs rolled high, saddle shoes and ducktails for the guys... yeah, everything was really nifty back then.
It seems like only yesterday... Ike was taking it easy in the White House and the Russky Sputnik satellite was circling above. Drinking a grape Nehi soda was still really cool, man!
No time for hula-hoops for the "in" crowd". They'd be found at the nearest malt shop or cruising the main drag to find a sock hop. All for a chance to rock around the clock and dig the sounds of their favorite 45s. You didn't have to be a beatnik to be hip. All you had to do was "be there" to avoid being square!
Music Entertainment will be provided by The Sirens. Jazz pianist Walt Smith will be tickling the ivories in the bar.
In recent years the net proceeds from Masquerade helped The Drug Endangered Children of the Mesa County Meth Task force the Western Slope Center for Children and School supplies for disadvantaged District 51 Children and Mesa Developmental Services. All very worthy local Children's causes. This year's beneficiary is the Kids Aid Backpack Program.

Kids Aid currently serves all schools in District 51and sends out an average of 1800 bags of food each week at a cost of almost $4.00 per bag. They deliver 32 weeks out of the school year.
